Are we one step closer to revealing the true identity of Satoshi?
What everyone thought about Craig Wright has now been stamped with the court’s seal.
Wright, who long claimed to be the creator of Bitcoin (BTC), has proven to be an imposter.
On 14th March, UK Judge James Mellor ruled that neither is Wright the famed Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto nor is he the author of the Bitcoin whitepaper.
Neither is Wright the person who created the Bitcoin System, nor is he the author of the initial versions of the Bitcoin software.
Judge Mellor made these observations during the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) trial. He also put a halt to two cases filed by Wright against Coinbase and Block (the latter is owned by Jack Dorsey, Twitter founder and former chief).
An Australian computer scientist, Wright has long claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto and authoring the Bitcoin whitepaper.
In 2021, COPA challenged Wright’s claim to authorship of the Bitcoin white paper, given that Wright was fighting for Bitcoin’s copyright claims.
COPA earlier claimed that Wright forged the documents to prove that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. Wright denied the allegation. Yesterday, Wright’s counsel again sought further evidence for the claim from COPA.
The group also claimed that it found hallmarks of backdated edits, created or altered using versions of software including ChatGPT that did not exist at the time the documents were supposedly made. It also claimed that the original Bitcoin document had been created using OpenOffice software, while the version provided by Wright had been created using the LaTeX tool. Even Wright’s concurred with the last assessment.
A COPA spokesperson said, “For over eight years, Dr Wright and his financial backers have lied about his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto and used that lie to bully and intimidate developers in the bitcoin community. That ends today with the court’s ruling that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.”
COPA is supported by Dorsey, leading US crypto exchange Coinbase, and crypto investment firm Microstrategy.
Judge Mellor said that he will provide any relief in his written judgement.
Though the decision refutes Craig’s claim to being the Bitcoin creator, it has further mystified us.
BUT: Who Indeed Is Satoshi Nakamoto?
Over the years, a number of people have claimed to be Satoshi though none of them have been so audacious so as to fight for copyright claims.
We can well understand why Craig and others like him after chasing after the Bitcoin claim. After all, it leads to an ascent to the throne of financial future.
BTC is rallying north of $68K at the moment, retreating from its all-time high (ATH) of $73.5K that it hit recently.
