Off-chain

Intermediate

Off-chain refers to any transaction or data exchange that occurs outside the main blockchain network. These activities are not recorded directly on the blockchain, which helps reduce congestion and costs. Off-chain methods are used for faster payments, private agreements, or preparing large transactions before finalising them on-chain. Examples include Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. Off-chain solutions offer scalability and privacy but require more trust between participants.
